Within my first for weeks back in the job, I had already received numerous contacts from constituents express their concerns regarding speeding, reckless driving and parking infringements within the Gungahlin region. This is especially evident in Franklin, along Horse Park Drive and Bonner and Forde around Mulligans Flat Road.
Although not the most serious or violent type of crime in the Territory, it is making our suburbs and roads unsafe. What is the Government doing to prevent this behaviour? Speed vans parked on arterial roads during peak hour certainly is not the answer.
I have written to the Minister regarding these issues to see what preventative measures he is supporting our police to implement to address dangerous driving. If we can resource our police, they are able to be more present in our community and be proactive to prevent and catch these hoon drivers.
